FREE G1 Fines, Limits and Demerit Points Practice Test

  • Based on official Ontario 2025 Driver's manual
  • Updated for September 2025
  • Perfect for learner’s permit and full adult driver’s licence
  • Triple-checked for accuracy

Questions on fines, limits, and demerit points make up a significant part of the Ontario Class G Knowledge Exam. To obtain a Class G learner’s licence in Ontario, an individual must be at least 16 years old, pass a vision screening and the Class G Knowledge Exam, and present valid government-issued identification. Our Ontario Fines, Limits, and Demerit Points Practice Test covers all the material necessary to pass the knowledge exam on your first attempt.

Topics you must learn for the knowledge exam include Ontario’s licence classifications and graduated licensing restrictions, enforced speed limits and penalties, and mandatory seatbelt and child safety seat usage. Additionally, you must familiarize yourself with Ontario’s zero-tolerance alcohol and impaired driving laws and its demerit system for traffic violations. There are also specific requirements for adverse conditions and compliance expectations during enforcement stops that may be tested.

The knowledge exam may also cover speed limits (generally set at 50 km/h in urban areas and 80 km/h in rural zones unless otherwise posted) and considerations in school and construction areas. During traffic stops, drivers are legally required to present their licence, vehicle permit, and insurance immediately. Fines, suspension, or even jail time can result if you do not comply. Ontario’s Graduated Licensing System (GDL) gradually adds driving privileges over a 20-month period (24-month minimum if no driving course is taken). It includes a three-stage process: Class GI (Level I: Learner’s Licence), Class G2 (Level II: Probationary Licence), and the full Class G licence. The GDL applies to all new drivers, limits your driving to between 5 a.m. and midnight, and prohibits your driving on 400-series highways with speed limits exceeding 80 km/h. You must have an experienced licensed driver (at least four years) in the vehicle with you at all times.

The Ontario Knowledge Exam comprises two sections of 20 multiple-choice questions. You must take the exam at a registered drive test center. You must correctly answer at least 16 out of 20 (80%) questions on each of the two sections to pass.

Our Ontario Fines, Limits, and Demerit Points Practice Test is based on the most recent version of the Ontario Driver’s Handbook and contains multiple-choice questions.

Fines, limits, and demerit points are only part of your knowledge exam. Be sure to check out our other Ontario Knowledge Exam Practice Tests!
