FREE ON G1 Practice Test 2025

If you are ready to work toward obtaining your Class G1 learner’s licence, we have a specially designed set of practice tests that will dramatically speed your learning process. Obtaining a Class G1 learner’s licence in Ontario requires passing the Class G1 Knowledge Exam, which can cover a wide range of material. First, though, you must be at least 16 years old, pass a vision screening, and present valid government-issued identification. Our Ontario (ON) G1 Practice Test and additional practice tests cover all the material necessary to pass the knowledge exam on your first attempt.

Half of the knowledge exam tests your understanding of road signs. Possibly also tested on the knowledge exam are licence classifications, enforced speed limits and penalties, mandatory seatbelt and child safety seat usage, Ontario’s zero-tolerance alcohol and impaired driving laws, and its demerit system for violations. You’ll also need to know how to handle adverse driving conditions and what to do during police stops.

The knowledge exam may cover speed limits, school zones or construction zones. Ontario also employs a Graduated Licensing System (GLS), which adds certain driving privileges over a 20-month period (24-month minimum if no driving course is taken). All new drivers, regardless of age, must participate in the GLS and adhere to its restrictions and holding periods. The GLS includes three stages: Class G1 (Level I: Learner’s Licence), Class G2 (Level II: Probationary Licence), and the full Class G licence. G1 drivers are limited to 5 a.m. to midnight driving, and are prohibited from driving on 400-series highways with speed limits exceeding 80 km/h. Additionally, with a Class G1 learner’s licence, you must have an experienced (i.e., licensed for at least four years) driver with you at all times and seated in the front passenger seat.

You will face two sections of 20 multiple-choice questions on the Ontario Knowledge Exam. You must take the exam at a registered drive test center and must correctly answer at least 16 out of 20 (80%) questions on each of the two sections to pass.

Our ON G1 Practice Test is based on the most recent version of the Ontario Driver’s Handbook and contains 40 multiple-choice questions. It is one of five available practice tests in our suite of offerings. We have additional Ontario-specific preparation quizzes and special features for our Premium members that further enhance learning. Check out our other Ontario Knowledge Exam Practice Tests!
